How to be a Successful Coach
There are many skills which you will need as a coach:
A recruiter …
A planner …

An organizer …
To be successful you must:
Recruit good players and convince parents to volunteer to help you with the team.
Plan and organize every activity of the team, whether practices, games, fund-raising, team party or whatever.
Manage the various activities of the team and the volunteers whom you need in order to get everything done without burning yourself out.
Lead the team. You are in charge and must guide and direct the team, both players and parents, to go where you believe it needs to go.
Teach your players the fundamentals of the game, sportsmanship, how to be a team, how to compete and most importantly, do all this while ensuring that your players are having fun.
Communicate clearly and frequently with your players and parents and ensure that they understand and buy into what you are trying to say.
Be an enthusiastic cheerleader for the team and the players. Compliment them when they do well, provide positive, yet constructive, feedback when they do not do well, and always communicate to your players that you care for them.
If you can balance all these skills properly you will be a good coach. The materials in the Tool Kit books are intended to help you in each and every one of your tasks. There is too much to do and too little time to do it for you to have to reinvent the wheel every time you need a “Tool” to facilitate something you’re trying to do. It is my hope that you can combine your skills with the “Tools” contained in the books to make every season successful.
And, having made it this far, you’re already in the top 10% of all coaches in terms of interest and motivation and well on your way to being among the best.
