                                Chaperone Duties
This handout explains the duties of a chaperone on team trips. I believe that chaperones are a necessity on trips and this document covers the whys and wherefores of the chaperones responsibilities.
CHAPERONE DUTIES

Chaperones on trips are a necessity, not a luxury.  Players will not be on a trip unless there are at least three chaperones. While we will treat the players as young women and believe they are all very nice and well-behaved, we will still require chaperones.

On overnight trips room arrangements (two double beds in a room) are three players and one chaperone to a room. There may be times when one room will have four players and no chaperone.

The chaperone is responsible for the players, making sure they are all where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be, dressed properly, lights are out and rooms quiet at curfew time, and that any problems the players have are taken care of. In addition, the chaperone is responsible for the room being cleaned up and in one piece when the team leaves.

When the team provides lunch at the field, chaperones will buy the food (the team pays the bill), bring it to the field and prepare it for the team. Normally this is cold cuts, bread, fruit, juices, yogurt, etc. A suggested shopping list is available. The team will repay the chaperones for expenses incurred.

Cost for the room, and any meals the team buys, will be paid by the team. Chaperones will eat with the players and help keep everything under control in the restaurant.

One key rule for the chaperones - (and by extension all parents traveling with the team) there will be absolutely no alcohol whatsoever when traveling and chaperoning.  I, and the players, would rather chaperones did not smoke in the rooms.

Chaperones should help players on the trips and set a good example.  If chaperones have questions they should call the coach.

One other point, if coaches travel with the team please remember that they are coaches, not chaperones. While it is reasonable to expect that they will help to keep rooms under control it is important to understand that they are not serving as chaperones.

Thanks,
